Principal,

Mrs. Ashland Temoney

Mrs. Temoney was born and raised in Charleston in the rural area of Hollywood.  She attended E.B.Ellington, R.D. Schroder, and later received her High School Diploma from Charleston County after attending Garrett Academy of Technology where her technology major was Early Childhood.  Mrs. Temoney attended Winthrop University and received her Bachelor of Science in Education Degree.  She then served as a social worker for York County Department of Social Services where she conducted investigations of child abuse and neglect for two years. She received a Masters of Arts Education in Early Childhood in 2011 and a Masters of Arts Education in Administration and Supervision in 2015.  Mrs. Temoney has been teaching in Charleston since 2011. She has even taught at Minnie Hughes Elementary.  She has taught Second grade, Third grade, CD, and served as a Literacy Coach. She was the Assistant Principal at James B. Edwards in Mount Pleasant for 3 years before returning to Hollywood.  She loves children and enjoys singing, shopping, and hanging out with family and friends.  She is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. Education has always been a core value in her life and continues to drive her endeavors. When she is not working she is spending time with her husband of more than 10 years and her son Tre.   Mrs. Temoney is humbled to return home and to give back to her own community through her service.

Ms. Sharon Gadsden

Ms. Sharon Gadsden is an ambitious and dedicated leader who brings both heart and strategy to Minnie Hughes Elementary School. She is outgoing in her commitment to students, staff, and families, leading with intention, authenticity, and purpose. Her leadership style reflects a deep belief in hard work, collaboration, and doing what is best for children—every single day.

She has worked her way through the educational ranks, gaining valuable experience as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and lead teacher before stepping into her current role as Assistant Principal. Each position strengthened her instructional expertise and sharpened her ability to support teachers in delivering high-quality, student-centered learning experiences.

Her professional journey includes notable accomplishments at Meeting Street Schools and Stono Park Elementary, where her impact was felt through strong instructional leadership, teacher development, and a commitment to academic excellence. She is known for giving her all in everything she does and never shying away from the work needed to move a school community forward.

Minnie Hughes Elementary is proud to have her as part of our leadership team. Her passion, perseverance, and unwavering dedication continue to make a difference in the lives of our students and staff daily.
