Here at Minnie Hughes, our scholars get the opportunity to participate in YOGA once a week. This interaction allows students to practice calm down strategies when they are having a hard time understanding certain skills in class. YOGA also helps students to focus on breathing techniques that helps them to relax their minds when they have "BIG" emotions.

The benefits of YOGA includes:

  • Social health

Yoga can help children improve their social interactions and connect with others.

  • Confidence

Yoga can help children boost their confidence and self-esteem by helping them master new poses and improve their coordination skills.

  • Discipline

Yoga can teach children discipline as they work on clearing their minds and perfecting their poses.

  • ADHD

Yoga can help children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) by improving the core symptoms of ADHD, including inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.

  • Physical health

Yoga can improve children's balance, strength, endurance, and aerobic capacity. It can also help with digestion, regulate hormones, and decrease symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

  • Mental health

Yoga can help children improve their focus, memory, self-esteem, and academic performance. It can also help reduce anxiety and stress, and improve classroom behavior.

  • Emotional health

Yoga can help children improve their emotional regulation, self-awareness, and consciousness. It can also help children build resilience and provide a healthy coping mechanism.
